I have the honour to address you on the

subject of the purchase by Government of the

Sailors' Home and Seamen's Institute situated on

Marine Lot No.295.

2. The question of additional office accommodation

for Government departments has been receiving attention for some time past and a comprehensive

scheme is being drawn up. It will however be a

matter of some years before any building in

accordance with whatever scheme is decided upon has

Beaconsfield Arcade which has been condemned.

this building are housed the Port Development sub-

department, a Sanitary department district office,

the Statistical Office, and the Medical department

store. Alterative accommodation must be found

immediately while further a store and repair shop

for the furniture required for Government offices

and quarters has become a necessity.
